Next to Blackjack, Roulette is one of the most popular, most often played and most often searched for casino games. That is not without a reason. Roulette offers the best casino experience and is worldwide regarded as the casino game where it all began. Playing roulette means playing the game that made the brick and mortal casinos and the online casino the institutes that they are today. For us, a reason to dedicate one entire article to Roulette, the game play, the history and some other relevant information. We kick off with the history; discuss game rules, tactics, variants, and some other tips about Roulette.
Roulette: a short history
Roulette as we play the game today is mostly a result of centuries of development, small changes and other adjustments to this game. In 18th century France, the game was developed and tested by the famous statistician Blaise Pascal. He named the game Roulette, which is French for ‘Little Wheel’ and refers to the wheel used for determining the outcome of the game. For years, the game had a relatively anonymous existence and it was only after Louis and François Blanc found a way to make the game profitable for the casino that Roulette became a mainstream game. They added the ‘0’ to the wheel, in order to generate a margin for the house: the payouts are slightly lower and once the ball finishes on ‘0’ then there is a house-win. Once figured out, Roulette started a triumph excursion that has never been equalled.
Roulette: game rules
The aim of Roulette is to predict (and gamble) the outcome and position of the little ball. Thereto, the cylinder (or Roulette wheel) has been divided into 36 different squares and one or two ‘0’. Depending on the variant (French or American) you get 37 or 38 figures on one wheel. Your goal? To predict where the ball ends in the cylinder, after the dealer gave a spin to the roulette-wheel. The payouts depend on your wager and on the choice you made. For example, if you expect the ball to end on a red number and placed a bet on ‘Red’, then you get paid out your bet double. Do you except the ball to stick to 36 Red and placed your bet solely on this number, then you get 35 times your bet in return once the ball stops on this number. Every Roulette table has an overview with the specific payouts.
Roulette: tactics
Despite the never-ending search for a system that beats the Roulette table and the dealer, the game has no such thing as a tactic. Of course, there are some things to keep in mind before placing a bet on the Roulette table. You might for example want to use the following tactic: place a bet on ‘Red’ or ‘Black’. If the ball goes to another colour and you lose, then you should double the bet and play again for the same colour. This requires some stack, but will eventually cut your losses while playing Roulette.
Roulette: variants
There is one basic difference between Roulette games which can but should not be overlooked by anyone who wants to play this game. This is the difference between a French variant of Roulette and an American Variant. While the French variant uses only one ‘0’, the American variant uses a ‘0’ and a ‘00’. This means that the American variant has a higher margin for the casino. In other words, they earn more money while you play American roulette. In some American casino branches they only offer this variant, but we advise you to play only French roulette online.
